The Right Tools Make the Ritual
You can have the best matcha powder in the world and still not get the best out of it if you're whisking it in the wrong bowl with the wrong whisk. A well-made matcha whisk creates the kind of fine, airy froth that makes a bowl of ceremonial matcha feel like something rather than just a drink.
Our accessories range is small by design. Every item in it is something we actually use and believe in. Nothing is here to pad out the collection.
Our Handmade Chawan
When we started sourcing matcha, we kept running into the same issue with accessories. Generic bamboo whisks sold in packs of five. Mass-produced bowls from God-knows-where. Nothing that actually felt like it belonged with a best ceremonial matcha drinking experience.
We wanted to offer a handmade chawan that meant something. Not a decorative item — a functional piece of ceramics made by hand, selected specifically to pair with one of our teas.
Bamboo Matcha Whisk & Holder Set
A good matcha whisk chasen in Japanese has 80 to 120 tines cut from a single piece of bamboo. Ours is paired with a ceramic whisk holder that keeps the tines in shape when the whisk isn't in use. Small detail. Makes the whisk last significantly longer.
Both are available as a set, and also included in our full starter kit if you want everything in one order.
Why do I need a handmade chawan instead of just using a regular cup for matcha?
A handmade chawan is shaped specifically for whisking it gives your matcha whisk the right room to froth ceremonial matcha properly, which a regular mug simply cannot do.
What is the difference between a low quality matcha whisk and a proper Japanese bamboo matcha whisk?
A proper Japanese matcha whisk is cut from a single bamboo piece with 80+ fine tines, which creates a smoother, finer froth compared to cheap alternatives that flatten quickly.
